Regupol Sonus

Regupol Sonus is one of our leading underlayments for acoustic solutions for your home.

This acoustic underlay helps many homes achieve Part E of UK building regulations, which ensures sound insulation meets minimum levels for quality living in buildings. These acoustic underlayments make sure that minimum requirements are met thanks to the high levels of sound cushioning this range offers.

We have three different versions of Regupol Sonus, each one differing in thickness and designed for different floorings.

Regupol Sonus works by creating a resilient barrier between the floor and the subfloor, designed to absorb and kill sound. It does this through its elastic nature, by taking the sound vibrations and dissipating them over the area of the underlayment. This not only has the benefit of lessening noise in the room but also between floors, since the underlayment is between the floor and the subfloor, essentially meaning there is a decoupling effect.

Regupol is dense, as well as being quite thick. The thickness helps provide a larger barrier for more sound absorption. Regupol Sonus comes in 3mm, 4.5mm, and 6mm versions, with the 3mm option offering less sound absorption properties than the others, but also being more suitable for use with underfloor heating.

Different individual underlayments within Regupol Sonus provide different levels of sound reduction (dB). There are also varying degrees of sound reduction based on differing circumstances, such as whether or not the ceiling below the floor is a suspended ceiling or not. In general, though, the Regupol Sonus range offers a sound reduction of between 17 and 23 dB.

There are two main types of noise that acoustic underlays can help reduce:

  • Impact Noise – This refers to the noise made by objects coming into contact with the floor. The impact will send vibrations through the floor, which creates noise. The vibrations are then captured and dissipated within the underlayment. Essentially, this means that on floors below, you will hear only the loudest of noises above.
  • Airborne Noise – This is, obviously, noise that travels through the air rather than through impact. When a person speaks, for example, it will travel in the air. It will then travel to and connect with a surface. Where acoustic underlay capable of stopping airborne noise is present, the person’s voice will connect with the underlayment, which then absorbs the volume rather than allowing it to transfer between rooms and floors.

The Regupol Sonus range is perfect for reducing impact sounds, offering impact sound reduction of between 17 and 23 dB depending on the exact underlay you choose from the range.

Regupol Sonus is made primarily with acoustic solutions in mind. That being said, there are a couple of extra benefits that some underlayments in the series can grant you:

  • Floor Levelling – Regupol Sonus 3912 is a thick version of Regupol Sonus that has floor levelling capabilities. This means that it evens out the surface of the floor to improve its appearance and stability. The lower areas of the subfloor, which is often the culprit of any unevenness you feel, are filled in by the Regupol Sonus, evening minor imperfections.
  • Comfort – Regupol’s thickness allows a layer of cushioning that provides improved comfort. The Regupol Sonus Multi-range, has a tog value of 0.39 and 0.54 for the 3mm and 4.5mm versions respectively, meaning heat is easily transferred making them suitable for underfloor heating.

ALL underlays in the Regupol Sonus range are designed to be durable and to last. A large part of their hard-wearing nature is down to the thickness on offer, but their PUR foam construction makes them especially tough and resilient to collapse or “bottoming” out under high point loads too. They also resist age and deformation, making them a great long-term acoustic solution.
