Carpet Grippers offer a range of functions that revolve around ensuring that the carpet is a tight fit to the subfloor, offering a smooth, tight fit. Here are the ways it does this:

Tension Maintenance – A carpet gripper holds the carpet taut, meaning that it cannot shift or ripple. This also means that it won’t become loose over time, ensuring that you have a smooth carpet free of wrinkles.

Edge Securing – The grippers’ sharp pins take hold of the carpet’s backing a few metres around the perimeter of the carpet, ensuring the edges do not shift.

Precise Finish – When a gripper holds down a carpet, it becomes easy to trim the edges to ensure a precise finish. Ensuring no extended length or excess ruins the look of your floor.

Protection – By keeping your carpet firmly in place, you prevent the carpet from sliding or moving out of place – which means decreased friction overall.

There are a range of different carpet adhesives out there – all of which are suitable for different situations:

Multipurpose Carpet Adhesive – This is the most common and most general adhesive for carpet installations. It’s usually used on action-backed carpets and offers a good bond.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive – PSAs allow for the repositioning of carpet tiles, most used in commercial settings where individual tiles may need replacing.

Thermo-Reactive Adhesive – This is an adhesive that is activated through heat. After being activated once, it can be reactivated by applying heat again, meaning it’s best used on carpets that may need lifting later on.

Epoxy Resin Adhesive – Epoxy Resin applies a very strong bond between the carpet and subfloor. This makes it a fantastic fit for areas with high levels of foot traffic, keeping the carpet secure and preventing as much wear and tear.

Solvent-Based Adhesive – This is another type of adhesive for carpets requiring a strong bond, and it also has good moisture resistance. That being said, they have a strong odour and require ventilation.

Water-Based Adhesive – This adhesive is like solvent-based adhesives, without the odour issue. It’s easier to clean up as well, along with it being generally safer and less flammable. That being said, despite being water-based, they are not anti-moisture.

Which adhesives do QA Flooring offer?

All of our adhesives are ideal for different situations:

Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive – It’s an easy-to-apply spray adhesive suitable for a wide array of floors from timber to ceramic, stone to masonry, and carpets to underlays. If you’re looking for a general adhesive for your flooring, this is a great option.

Strong Grip Gripper Adhesive – Designed for gap filling and applying adhesive precisely to door strips, skirting boards, covings, stair nosings, and carpet grippers.

Fast Set Super Gripper Adhesive – This fast-setting polyurethane adhesive is great at sticking door strips, stair nosings, and carpet grippers to most floor surfaces. This sets MUCH faster than the Strong Grip Gripper Adhesive, so it’s perfect for confident DIYers.

There are several reasons you may want to use a damp-proof polythene membrane:

Moisture Barrier – One of the main reasons is the moisture barrier. By applying the membrane, you can prevent moisture from seeping up from the ground. This prevents the underlying flooring material from becoming damaged or infected with mould or mildew. On top of that, wooden floors can warp under moisture, and adhesives can deteriorate much faster.

Concrete Subfloors – Concrete is porous, meaning that moisture can enter and be stored within. When pressure is applied through floor installation, that moisture can be pushed up into the flooring. A damp-proof membrane can absorb most of the moisture and protect the flooring.

Improved Indoor Air Quality – Through the prevention of mould and mildew beneath the floor, you can breathe in much cleaner air. Otherwise, you will be at risk of health issues.

Protection for Underfloor Heating – The damp-proof membrane can act as a barrier between the heating system and the flooring. Since moisture negatively affects both, you will enable protection for both. The moisture will be sucked up in the membrane, allowing your floor and system to operate at its most efficient.

The Gold Heatseam Tape is a tape that is designed to be used alongside carpet seaming irons in joining two sections of the carpet together. It is a “gold grade” tape, meaning high quality, and it provides the optimal bond between carpet seals. The tape will ensure that they remain secure, and cannot fray or separate in the areas bound.

On top of this, the tape’s adhesive can bear the heavier foot traffic, making it great for tougher carpets, as well as simply remaining invisible and durable.

The Shark Knife is a sharp utility tool used for carpet and flooring installations. Its purpose is to provide the user with the ability to cut precisely. This is most utilised when trimming the edges of carpets and cutting around obstacles, which it does with its excellently sharp blade – hence the name “Shark Knife”.

The shape and design of the shark knife offers safety for the user by minimising contact between flesh and blade, and minimising the possibility of slips thanks to its ergonomic hand protection design.

What is the Handywrap used for?

Handywraps are stretch films that are used to primarily package and secure items together. Although it’s not strictly a tool for flooring and carpet installations, it’s still very often used for wrapping up tools, bundling carpet rolls and securing items that require being bound together for transportation or storage. The wrap doesn’t need any adhesive tape to bind together, as it clings to itself, providing its own firm grip.
